Orana Heights Public School is situated in Oak Street, Dubbo on a large and well cared for site. A strong “Learnscape” team comprising staff and students plan, sustain and ensure that the grounds and surrounds are always of the highest quality. This is in line with the school philosophy of respect for each other and the environment.
This year we have twenty mainstream classes catering for over five hundred children. As well as these classes we also have an Early Intervention class catering for children aged three to five with disabilities, a class catering for children with moderate intellectual disabilities, another class catering for students with mild intellectual disabilities and another special education class catering for children diagnosed with autism. These four classes have lower enrolments than the mainstream classes due to the specific needs of the students enrolled in them.
The school follows the syllabi of the NSW Department of Education and Training based on “stages” of development. These are two year segments of learning during which students are provided with the learning experiences and foundations for the next two years of learning. The terms for these stages as against previous class names or “grades” are: Early Stage 1 (ES1) – Kindergarten, Stage 1 (S1) – Years One and Two, Stage 2 (S2) – Years Three and Four and Stage 3 (S3) – Years Five and Six. As well as our core business of education, we also offer opportunities in the areas of; Gifted and Talented programs, leadership development, band, choir, debating, public speaking, creative arts and a wide range of sporting programs. Class sizes vary however ES1 have an average of twenty students, S1 have an average of twenty three and Stages Two and Three have an average of twenty seven.
The school welfare system is based on Control Theory Reality Therapy (CTRT) as developed by Dr William Glasser. All staff are trained in this process to ensure consistency of teacher judgment and action across the whole school. As a result of this organization the school is widely recognized as having a very successful student support system in place.
Our school is all inclusive and we accept all enrolments from our drawing area. If you would like more information on Orana Heights Public School please feel free to contact the school for an information booklet or to arrange an interview with me.
